Many of us will remember the iconic Bloom's kosher restaurant in Whitechapel and its offshoots in Edgware and Golders Green. Its fascinating history is the subject of a new book which has its official launch at Finchley Church End Library, 318-320, Gateway House, Regents Park Rd, London, N3 2LN, on Sunday June 1 from 2.30 (but please arrive by 2.00) to 4.30 with a Q&A and book-signing session.
The event, Bloom’s Story, A Cast of Characters, features author and social historian Pam Fox in conversation with Francine Wolfisz, with Pam discussing her book ‘Noshtalgia’ The Bloom’s Story 1921-2010..
The original restaurant at No.58 Brick Lane in Stepney was established by Morris Bloom, who was a Lithuanian immigrant who arrived in London in 1912.
In 1930 Bloom’s opened a Kosher Food Factory at 111 Wentworth Street, Stepney and in 1952, shortly after Morris Bloom passed away, the restaurant moved to 90 Whitechapel High Street.
Sidney opened a restaurant in 130 Golders Green Road, which served traditional Ashkenazi-style Jewish cuisine.
The afternoon should prove a fascinating event. It is for adults only, with tickets (£4) from https://bit.ly/4lRVwJN
